I am so excited to be promoting the new cover of Dream Student, the first novel of my good friend, J.J. DiBenedetto. I loved this book. Took me right back to my days as a college coed. For a limited time, it's bargain priced at 99 cents, so snap it up while you can. But I'm warning you - these books are addictive. I bought this one and immediately purchased the rest of the books that were available at the time. I've now read all six, and I'm fortunate enough to be one of J.J.'s beta readers for number seven. Read the excerpt, and you'll see what I mean. And did I mention it was available as an audiobook as well? Here is the purchase link. Link to audio sample. Excerpt: We stop at McDonalds for a quick bite on the way home, and we just sit for a few minutes after we’ve eaten. Dad is staring longingly at his autograph. “This is beautiful,” he says, a faraway look in his eye. I look at Brian’s gift. Mike Schmidt signed it, “Brian–Go get ‘em, slugger!–Mike Schmidt, #20.” He’s going to love it. How could he not? I just stare at the words, picturing Brian opening up his gift, imagining his reaction, feeling him holding me, kissing me… There’s a sound, my Dad clearing his throat, and I’m back in the here and now. He looks at the picture in my hand, and then, with a very odd expression on his face he wags his finger at me. “I think I need to meet your young man.” “You’re going to, Dad. On Sunday.” What’s going on? He’s still got that expression. He’s looking at me as though he’s noticing something he’s never seen before. “I see so much of your mother in you. I don’t think you realize how like her you are,” he says, finally. I do, actually. I look a lot like her. I’ve seen pictures of her when she was young, and if you didn’t know it you might think you were looking at me. I start to say that, but he shakes his head. “It’s not just that you look like her,” he says, reading my mind. “It’s–well, I was watching you just now. I saw how your eyes lit up when you were thinking about your Brian.” How long was I staring at that picture? “Nobody else has eyes like yours. Nobody else’s are that bright. Nobody else’s light up the way yours did just now. Except…” and now he chokes up a bit, and he has to have some water before he can go on, “Nobody except your mother. How you looked just now, that’s how she looks sometimes, when she’s looking at me.” Oh. Oh, my. --- Read about my writing: www.writingdreams.net What if you could see everyone else's dreams? To be honest, most of it just went in one ear and out the other as it often does when someone is talking about something we really don't have an interest in. All I knew was that it was another social media outlet where you gain followers, something like a Twitter with pictures. I already had Twitter, so what could I possibly need with another 'follower' account. Eventually, she convinced me I needed to try it out, so I opened an account, created a couple of (extremely) random boards and pinned some of the pictures that popped up when I opened the app. Big woop. It wasn't, however, until my author friend, Tammie Clark Gibbs invited me to a FaceBook Pinterest Pinning Party (say that 3x fast), that I really 'got it'. Pinterest is really like a set of file folders for anything you might be interested in, but unlike your typical files, these come with bright, beautiful images! It's like tearing articles from a magazine, only without the jagged edges. And the file system is right on your page. If you're interested in spring cleaning, you can find hundreds of pins on the subject. If books are your thing, check out my Pinterest Page. The possibilities are endless. But more than that, it's FUN! If you already have an account, let's connect. I love looking at other people's boards, seeing what interests them. If you aren't already on Pinterest, you should head over there to see what all the hoopla is about. I bet you'll be glad you did. My daughter is a died-in-the-wool Directioner. She absolutely loves the British boy band, follows everything they do, and could probably even tell you what they had for breakfast this morning. For Christmas, she got tickets to the 1D concert here in Nashville. Of course the concert isn't until June, but then again, I had to buy the concert tickets back in August. You'd think she'd be thrilled. Well, she was...for a while. Well, for the past week or so, she's been nagging me to get her the up close package which includes a pre-show, dinner, and meeting the boys. Uh, yeah. I love my girl, but seriously, the package to meet these sweethearts is pretty hefty. After listening to her begging (and begging and begging) for several days, we finally came up with a compromise: If I sell 10,000 books between now and June 19, I'll buy her the pass. So if you want to help my daughter get to meet One Direction, you can buy a copy of Finding My Escape. My daughter will thank you. Finding My Way Back, which is the tentative title of the sequel to Finding My Escape, is expected to be finished in draft form by mid-April 2013. I'm shooting for April 15, give or take a few days. Hopefully (keep your fingers crossed), we'll have the book edited and out by mid-summer.
Here's where you come in. I'm looking for beta readers, and I'm going to be choosing one person who posts a comment or question to this site and one person who comments on my blog Eclectic Musings to be among the first to read it. The only requirement is that you've also read Finding My Escape. Tell your friends! I look forward to hearing from you. |
